Video Clips

General videoclips and slideshow of the effects of the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid in the southern Appalachians.

The videos were shot on October 2006 and the trees (10 in total) were treated with the highest dosage of imidacloprid 75 WSP in November 2002. They were retreated (against my wishes- ruins the experiment…) in fall 2005. I climbed again in June of this year and some branches have new HWA but they may not mature this fall. In general though, the trees look pretty good, with tree #10 (in first video) having the healthiest and fullest crown. No HWA was observed in that tree in June 2007.

I plan to return this fall after leaf drop to film and photograph the grove of ten trees from the ridge across the creek. This vantage point should really show the striking difference between the results when you act QUICKLY versus wait a few years to treat. ALL the other trees in the videos were treated in 2005. I really hope to see some recovery this fall or all was wasted, although we didn’t know that at the time. - Will Blozan August 8, 2007
