	Will Blozan wrote (Aug 09, 2007):  "...The white is lichen for the most part. There are very few to no needles left for HWA.  Here are some close-ups. Southern Appalachian hemlocks are major lichen substrates. That is in stark contrast with the hemlocks I have climbed up north in New England and PA- virtually no epiphytes of any kind in the canopy."
