Snowy Trees in South Korea James Parton
  January 26, 2009

ENTS,

Brian Lyman, my wife's son is currently stationed at Camp Humphreys ( US Army ) South Korea, now more commonly known as the Republic Of Korea. He has been stationed there for nearly a year and is due home in 16 days to be reassigned to Fort Stewart, most likely at Hunter Army Airfield near Savannah Georgia. Camp Humphreys is located 35 miles south of Seoul near Pyongtaek. Asan bay is 12 miles to the west. In the satillite image the runway of Camp Humphreys is easily seen just right of the pictures center.

Brian called Joy a couple of days back telling her that the camp had a foot of snow. The climate there averages colder than here in the mountains of North Carolina with temperatures closer to New England than NC. He posted quite a few pictures of the snow covered area on his MySpace page. Examining the pictures I noticed what looked like Pitch or Virginia pine!  I thought, not in Korea?  I wonder what kind of pines these are?  Does anyone in ENTS have any idea? He also took some pictures of some nicely manicured ones near a Burger King located there. Another has some hardwoods too. Has anyone been to ROK and examined any of the trees located there?

Brian gladly gave me permission to post these pictures to ENTS and is quite an " outdoors type " himself.
