ENTS,

This is a time of increasing connectivity to each other through the internet.  Today I responded to another invitation to create a space on Facebook.  I also revisited my MySpace page for the first time in over a year.  I am a member of a couple of Ning social groups, most important to ENTS is that I started the group Primal Forests - Ancient Trees  http://primalforests.ning.com/ on Ning as an additional or alternative meeting place for those interested in trees, but perhaps not as interested in measurement.  I am wondering how all of you view these internet communities?  Do many of you belong to one or more of them - I know you all belong to the ENTS Google Group http://groups.google.com/group/entstrees?hl=en or you would not be getting this message.  How can any of this be used to further to goals and ideals of ENTS?

Google Earth for example has a new program whereby groups can enter onto a world map locations that link to photo albums, videos and the like.  We could use the feature to create an interactive map of the research ENTS is doing.  http://earth.google.com/ We would need to buy the full blown software or make do with the limited version.  (There is a grant program through which  ENTS could apply for a free copy of the full program) http://earth.google.com/outreach/index.html  

What  other resources can we use to better move ENTS more fully into the internet age?  Please send in your ideas and comments.
