Yellow Birch

Kristine and a 13.7' X 102' yellow birch Dunn Creek, GSMNP

Stilt root development in yellow birch. Such development indicates a continuity if tree generations as the stilts form as the roots of a seedling growth through an fallen log. Then the log rots away leaving the roots exposed.  Photo submitted by Will Blozan.
