ENTS,

Just measured and nominated a spicebush (Lindera benzoin) for the National Register. Jess may have nominated a larger one but the one today was 16.5" X
32' X 21'.

A nearby tree was 26" in girth below first limb (which is where I would measure it). Anyway, maybe it will make it in! Height was a tape drop with pole and may be one of the tallest measured.

Will,

I was not suggesting that you did not measure small trees. I was applauding
the idea that smaller trees should be measured like was done by you in this
example. I was intending this message to imply you were a role model for
measuring big - little trees like this.

I did have a previous National Champion for the species BTW.

Ed,

I also nominated a mountain winterberry (Ilex montana) that Darian Copiz and
I measured in 2005. It grows in Cataloochee on Caldwell Fork; 28" X 33' X
33'.

Let's hear it for the "little people"!

Carolyn,

Here are some recipes for drinks that dad occaisionally makes.

I have tried all three. The Sumac Lemonade is the best. I used to take
it to school in a thermos bottle & most people who I let try it
thought it was lemonade. It is also called Indian Tea.
