ENTS:
Today 30 radio stations set up broadcast tables on the
Washington Ave.
Bridge (over the Mississippi) on the University of Minnesota
Campus and
raised $600,000 for Katrina relief.
Several university experts on large disturbances were present
and did many
live interviews broadcast across the state. I was on the air
telling the
listeners about tree death due to flooding, and the huge forest
blowdown
that occurred in Mississippi along the east side of the
hurricane eyewall
from the coast through De Soto National Forest, up to 100 miles
inland. We
don't have acreages yet, but it is likely to be one of the five
biggest
blowdowns we have had in North America--the other four being the
MN
blowdown of 1999, Hurricane Hugo blowdown in SC of 1989, Wi
blowdown of
1977, and 1938 Hurricane blowdown in New England of 1938.
