I
surveyed the last section of the eastern prong of Winding Stairs
Branch
today. I FINALLY found that ~147' white oak that has been so
elusive since
it's first discovery in '95 or '96. Well, the laser confirmed
its height at
147.1'. Shooting straight up I got 146.7'. Not a bad
confirmation! The only
other tree of note was a black birch 5'4" standing at 112.6
feet. This is
the third black birch above 110' that I know of.
The white
oak was 10'11" cbh, by the way.
