My wife and I attended a wedding in Spartanburg SC this past Saturday.
After the wedding, we still had a bit of daylight left, so I asked my
wife if she'd like to see Falls Park in downtown Greenville SC. So we
drove over there. If you've never been, it's worth a trip unto itself.
The experience is especially heartening when you learn that the city
pretty much rescued the waterfalls from decades of neglect and
destruction while it lay underneath an overpass. Now it's the most
beautiful urban park I've never seen.

This was the first time I'd had time to really stroll around the park
and I saw some nice trees. There's a beech tree with an exposed root
system between the park and the Governor's School on the opposite side
of the river from the main part of town. It's worth seeing,
illustrating how tenacious life can be. There are several nice poplars
in the park, but nothing extraordinary.

If you've never been to Falls Park, it's a grand place to spend a day.
Especially if you have family members who aren't accustomed to hiking
long distances or into rugged gorges to see spectacular waterfalls and
a nice grove of trees. These falls, known as the Reedy River Falls,
are extremely impressive. Treat yourself to this park, if you can.

Here's a Webshots album of my most recent trip to the park:

Bob Smith,

That looks like a nice place. Not what I would have expected for
Spartanburg or upstate SC. I would more expect to find a waterfall
here in the mountains. Seeing that waterfall makes me want to go
fish.

What kind of camera do you use? It looks like it does a decent job.
