Dale, ENTS

Had a nice hike today at the 600+ acre Tyler Arboretum in Delaware Co.
Pa. In my travels I measured a Fraser Magnolia. It measured out at
4.3 x 55.9 x 52 for 121 points. This is our new state champ, as the
other tree died and was removed.

Secondly I found a nice Mockernut Hickory that measured out to 7.2 x
124.3 x 39 for 220 points putting it in fifth place in the state
contest. This tree is a new state height champ, I believe. (Dale??)
and will raise the rucker for Tyler Arboretum to 124.2 from 123.1. A
whole foot, woo hoo!!

Outstanding!

Great stuff, Scott. I'll update the PA Tall Tree list with these. I
don't have Fraser magnolia on the list yet.

I've yet to measure any mockernut on this end of the state. Your new
one beats the last I have that you measured at the Sisters of St.
Francis.

What are your top 10 species for the Tyler Arboretum? As long as
they're all ENTS measured, I'll add that to the state's Rucker
Comparison List. That will make eight 120 or better RI class sites for
PA.

Niiiiiiice,

Dale

Scott,

PA continues to shine relative to the remainder of the Northeast. I haven't even broken 100 feet on a Mockernut.
Tyler Arboretum is pretty impressive. Love those hickories.

Shagbark Hickory 6.5 x 126.1
White Ash 7.6 x 120.6
Red Oak 14.6 x 118.8 (a different red oak
from before that I forgot to add in)
Bitternut Hickory 8.2 x 126.8
Black Oak 9.9 x 129.5
Tulip Poplar 13.4 x 141.5

The spring flowers were just starting, I saw spring beauty, Blood
root, Trout Lily etc. It was a nice day for a walk. Now that I am
not working, I should be able to get out a little more locally.
