Dale,
Congrats on finding the silver maple. Is that only the second
sycamore for
Pa. to break 140'? If you would like some more island stats I could
do a RI
for Andruss Island. The island lies between Montgomery and Chester
counties
in the Schuylkill River. I've been on the island several times and
was
impressed with it's lower half. Looks like the 12x100 list is
getting
larger too.
George
Dale,
I don't think I'll find any new height records on the island but
it does
contain a large patch of pawpaw.

Ed,
I try not to forget about the understory species. I think there
are a few
more height contenders from Valley Forge. An a. hornbeam 1'3" x
50.1, black
oak 6'9" x 125.7, box elder 9'1" x 90.0, honey locust 3'11" x 103.3,
northern catalpa 8'1" x 104.1, osage orange 9'1" x 81.0, sassafras
6'1" x
108.3, swamp chestnut oak 8'6" x 118.2 and a white mulberry 5'1" x
71.5. I
also measured some flowering dogwoods at Ridley Creek State Park
that
measured 2' x 42.3 and 2'2" x 44.8 and an a. hornbeam at 1'8" x
44.8. Most
of these trees were listed on the limited data sheet.
