ENTS,
While walking a small trail around the VA Hospital earlier in the
year
I noticed a number of sizeable trees on the place. The Hospital was
built there back around 1917 so the trees have had time to reach a
fair size. I found a sizeable recently cut White Pine stump in which
I
counted the rings 3 different times. I came up with numbers between
88
& 94 rings which corresponds well with the age of the hospital.
Here are the cbh @ 4.5ft measurements of the trees that I took while
revisiting the site yesterday ( 12/8/07 ).
Norway Spruce: 6' 10 1/4"
Shortleaf Pine: 5' 10 3/4"
White Oak: 15' 11 3/4"
White Oak: 13' 9.0"
White Oak: 12' 6.0"
Shortleaf Pine: 5' 11.0"
American Beech: 11' 0"
White Oak: 12' 9.0"
American Holly: 7' 3 1/4" ( Fused trunked tree )
Norway Spruce: 7' 5 1/2"
Eastern Hemlock: 6' 11 1/4" ( Tree in poor shape )
Norway Spruce: 11' 7.0"
White Oak: 8' 8 1/2"
Red Oak: 9' 9.0"
White Pine 9' 5 1/2"
I uploaded a picture of the largest White Oak to the file page.
