ENTS,
My workplace, the GE Lighting Systems plant which is located in East
Flat Rock just outside of Hendersonville NC has five nice Sweetgum
trees out front that I noticed some time back had a considerable
girth
to them. They have been there since at least 1955 when the plant was
established. In an old 1955 photo it shows them still as fair sized
trees, they planted them as saplings of considerable size it
appears.
Unfortunantly they prune them back every so many years to their
height
& spread is not impressive. I guess their height is about 60
feet or so.
Here is their cbh measurements.
9' 7 1/2"
8' 11 1/2"
7' 10"
8' 5 1/2"
8' 4"

Pretty in the fall, I bet.
Some of the sweet gums down my way can turn an exquisite deep purple
red, maroon color in the fall.

Gary,
They are really pretty when they are allowed to grow out. Last year
they pruned them back heavily and they were hardly any leaves to
show
color.
