ENTS,

I found what I think is a Yellow Birch today. It was located near White Oak
Stamp off of the AT West of Franklin, NC off of Highway 64. I am attaching a
couple pictures. I am pretty sure it is Betula but don't know if it is
Yellow . I am not familiar with the bark on large Old Growth Yellow Birch .
Please help!

Thanks!
Greg Ehrenberg

Gregory,

I can't see the leaves well but it looks like a Birch and a huge one
at that. I have seen some big ones but not this big. I did read of
some finds by Robert Messick of some huge birches he found a while
back.

James P.

Greg,

Yes, an old yellow birch. I've seen many in the Adirondacks that look like that.
