Burned out stump, but still alive, NJ Barry Caselli
June 13, 2009

ENTS,

Here are two pictures of a burned-out Buttonwood stump that's still alive at Martha Furnace. The crown in the second picture goes with the vertical leed on the left side of the trunk in the first picture. The trunk at stump level is aproximately 10 inches in diameter, if I had to guess. Another really tenacious tree! (There is a similarly messed up buttonwood at Hermann City.) I have discussed the messed up trees of Martha Furnace in earlier posts. I will have to include Martha Furnace in the NJ Pine Barrens outing, whenever it will be. Hermann City and Martha Furnace are both ghost towns.
Enjoy,
Barry
