A couple years ago, before the forums became a Google group, we discussed brooming in trees. http://www.nativetreesociety.org/species/witchs_broom/witchs_broom.htm This is the largest and most conspicuous broom I know of.
I happened to be in the area of this tree today, so snapped a couple pictures.
