Hi All,

Thanks for the forward Ed. Was just going to send some new info....

I am on the KY Forest Health Task Force and we had a meeting last week and
things are worse than they seem - check this out:
http://www.uky.edu/~sfei2/hwa.htm

It seems that the more people look for HWA in KY, the more they find. There
is no known HWA in the Daniel Boone National Forest on that map because 1)
they have no/little resources to look for HWA and 2) they can't get $$ until
HWA is found on the Boone. Lil' Catch-22.

And, emerald ash borer will be here in a few yrs or sooner....It was a grim
and sobering meeting. The good news is that KY is trying to be proactive on
this stuff. Treatment has started in some area for HWA. Green [that is raw],
ash is not allowed in KY without inspection. There is talk of doing
something about firewood.

See the attached flyer - oops, I'll send it to Ed.

Neil-
Along the Kentucky River (middle fork?) where it comes into the
Redbird Purchase Unit (might be a Ranger District by now...), there
lies a stand of hemlock that had been slated for sale and marking,
until I made a bit of a ruckus. May still be there, or maybe in my
absence they harvested them....they were reasonably large (for our
district) and perhaps amounted to a 5-10 acre stand. Hope they made it
through the USFS mgmt. plan and kicked some HWA butt!
