Ents:
I was listening to a past NPR story
(http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4572908)
and it
mentioned that 543 new species have been discovered since 1999
at GSMNP. I'm
sure this has already been discussed on the list but can anybody
point me in
the right direction to learn more?

The
new species have been found as a part of the All Taxa
Biodiversity
Inventory that, among other tasks, seeks to document all species
occurring
in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The projects
website,
http://www.dlia.org/atbi/index.shtml,
contains links to an informative
newsletter that often features articles on lesser known taxa,
such as
water bears and slime molds.
