Subject: [ENTS] Tulip Poplar along the Chattahoochee
I wanted to make a quick post to introduce myself as I
hope to visit
you all at Congaree in February to learn the science and/or art of
measuring trees.
I am a
recreational tree climber who likes getting out into the woods (when
the family allows me) to look for waterfalls and big trees. I have
enjoyed reading your posts and appreciate you all sharing your
experiences. At this time I'm planning to attend your gathering at
Conagree to learn the ropes and help out in any way I can.
I thought I would share one tree with you that resides
along the
Chattahoochee River in Atlanta. I have named it Big Mouth (if the
pictures post, you will see why). Although my measurements aren't
precise, this tree had a 15' circumference that tapered 9' at its 61'
mark. I climbed to 116' and guess the tree went on for another 10 to
15 feet.
At the base of Big Mouth...
