ENTS,
This weekend my wife & I took our yearly trip up to Niagara
Falls. We
always enjoy going to the Canadian side. Excursions into Niagara
Glen,
The Whirlpool, Devils Hole Rapids, and the town of Niagara on the
Lake
are our usual haunts. This trip, we spent a great bit of our time in
Niagara on the Lake, exploring the historical British/Canadian War
of
1812 Ft. George, as well as taking the usual view from the carapace
of
the Falls'.
I didn't get much time to explore for big trees, but I was able to
make
a short side trip to 'Locust Grove'. It is along the River Road on
the
Canadian side adjacent to the historical site of Queenston Heights.
Bruce Kershner & Gerry Horowitz made an incredible discovery
here a few
years ago that I wanted to share with my wife. A huge black walnut
that
now stands at 17.1ft CBH x 104.2ft high. It appears to be an old
fused
double with the fusion point at around 10ft up from its base.
I'll soon send Ed some recent pictures of this trip for a future
"pic
link" on the website, as well as a video close-up view of the
water as
it tumbles over the carapace of the Falls.
